While companies like Tesla and Rivian may be seen as leaders or front runners in the race to change the American automotive landscape to a more environmentally friendly, electric world, it is Cadillac (and GM) that has been setting the tone for mass production electric vehicles.
Â
While Chevrolet has released several EV versions of some of its current lineup like the Blazer EV, the Silverado EV, and the soon to be Equinox EV, Cadillac has taken the EV game to a completely different level injecting a level of luxury and sophistication not seen by any other brand on the market today.
Â
Recently Cadillac released the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq, a premium luxury electric SUV with a starting price of 58,590. While it is true that there are other electric SUV's on the market they do not hold a torch to the level of luxury and sophistication found in a Cadillac.
Â
Some of the main features that set the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq apart from its competition are its hands free super cruise technology that is available with driver assistance technology. Super cruise allows the driver the ability to have the vehicle drive itself using the special assistance technology on compatible roads. the Super cruise system steers the vehicle and maintains lane position, but it can also perform things like lane changes under certain conditions while continuing to monitor attention to the road ahead for safety.
Â
Cadillac took its time with the 2024 Lyriq electric SUV. Installing inside the cabin a 33 inch diagonal advanced LED display, one of the largest if not the largest diagonal LED display inside a vehicle. After all this is 2024 not 2004! This single continuous screen has a resolution capability of up to 9K. The 33 inch diagonal screen stretches from the far left corner of the driver side of the vehicle across to the center console providing a large enough display for the driver to see everything they need to see as well as the ability for the driver and passenger to access the infotainment system which includes apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as Google Maps and Google Assistant.
Â
The technology found in the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq isn't all about impressive screen resolution and infotainment technology, no the vehicle also includes the Cadillac smart system which is a suite of standard safety features like front pedestrian braking comma automatic emergency break, front collision alert comma safety alert seats comma rear seat reminders, rear park assist, HD rear vision camera, and even a teen driver mode.
Â
While all of these advanced technological and safety features are fantastic at the end of the day the importance is the EPA estimated range. In rear wheel drive mode the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq can get up to 314 miles of range. In all-wheel drive mode the range only goes down slightly to 307 miles.
Â
How is Cadillac truly running the luxury EV game with just one electric SUV you may ask? While it is true that currently the Lyriq is the only EV Cadillac on the market, Cadillac will be adding two revolutionary vehicles to its EV lineup very soon. The Cadillac Escalade IQ coming out in late 2024 is one. The Escalade IQ has an estimated range of up to 450 miles! More on that in a but, but first....
Â
Let's take a look at the Cadillac Celestiq a meticulously crafted 4 door sedan that is being touted as the first ultra luxury EV when it comes to the market. It will be the most technologically advanced vehicle in Cadillac's history. While you will see many features that are already standard on other EV and non EV Cadillac models like super cruise some of the main things that set this vehicle apart are first and foremost it's other worldly design.
Â
While it looks like an ultra luxurious sedan from the front, as you make your way to the rear of the vehicle the c-pillar extends upwards giving the vehicle a "shooting-brake" type of design. It's not totally a station wagon, but its not totally a sedan.
Â
Indeed the all electric, 0 tailpipe emission Celestiq will command a very hefty price tag upon it's release. A price tag similar to more upmarket vehicles like Rolls Royce. The technology inside the Celestiq will include many industry firsts. As we mentioned it will be the world's first all electric ultra luxury sedan. It will also include an industry first smart glass panoramic sunroof with fixed glass as well as the world's 1st individualized 4 zone microclimate control system.
Â
Indeed the EV world is about to get a lot more luxurious. But let's not forget about Cadillac's 3rd EV that will be coming out shortly. Cadillac set the world standard for luxury 100 years ago. Then in 1998 it's set the standard for the luxury SUV when it introduced the Escalade. And now over 25 years later Cadillac is about to redefine the luxury SUV with the Cadillac Escalade IQ due to be released in late 2024 with a Cadillac estimated range of up to 450 miles! The Escalade IQ will also feature a pillar to pillar 55 inch diagonal screen stretching across the entire front area of the driver and passenger cabin. Additionally for those sitting in the 2nd row they get to experience the luxury of an executive style 2nd row. A well appointed space with uncompromising comfort that features a divider in the middle as well as a control screen to share between the two passenger 2nd row occupants it will also feature a tinted and UV treated panoramic fixed glass roof for maximum comfort.
Â
Since the Escalade IQ does not have a traditional internal combustion engine it features 12.2 cubic feet of front storage.
Â
It's safe to say that Cadillac isn't just entering the luxury EV market it is once again redefining the standard of the world.
