THE CADILLAC XT5 VS JAGUAR F-PACE
This one's a proper match-up. Both cars are dependable SUV's and both have complete dominance over the other on specific Features.
Let's start with Safety, where The Caddy reigns supreme. Offering probably the most complete package for its price range when it comes to safety systems, the XT5 earned a TSP+ safety rating. Why? Because it comes equipped with side curtains and side impact airbags, RearPark assist, a rearview camera, Traction Control, Tire Pressure Monitoring and even a 5 year Basic Plan with OnStar with 4G LTE Wifi, to name but a few of the STANDARD Safety Features. Upgrades are available and they will bring a little Science Fiction in your life, with handy features such as Pedestrian Detection and Front Automatic Braking with Automatic High Beam or Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning. It's evident that manufacturers had safety among their top priorities when designing and pricing this car and for a client base made up of family men and women, that decision was truly inspired.
Where the F-Pace takes the lead is mileage. You get 26 miles per gallon inside the city and 33 on the highway, compared to just 19 for the Caddy when it comes to city driving and 27 on open roads.
If outside design can be open for debate, as it's more a matter of personal preference than anything else, the interior is objectively better on the XT5. First of all is the apparent drab affair one feels in the F-Pace's cockpit, while the Cadillac is absolutely stunning. Quality of materials and impeccable craftsmanship everywhere you turn, not to mention the standard High-Tech gizmos the car comes equipped with like wireless smartphone charging, Apple CarPlay or setting up a Wifi hotspot to be used by all passengers. The Jaguar does well concerning quality and it can be seen as a quality SUV, but when you compare it directly with the XT5 it's really not a tight race, with the F-Pace left trailing miles behind.
In terms of handling and overall ride comfort the Jaguar shows it has things it can improve, probably because this is the company's first ever SUV, while it's evident that the XT5 comes as an improvement to a previous model, the SRX. This gave Cadillac a considerable advantage in terms of experience and it shows. The XT5 is smoother and seems much more reliable on the road at comparable engine outputs.
The fact that Jaguar has a lot of engine options while the Cadillac offers just a single possibility, the 310 HP one, can be seen as an advantage. You get to customise your car, choosing between what's more important to you, high performance or high mileage.
Overall the F-Pace is a remarkable SUV, but one can't help to feel it's just the first attempt Jaguar has made in this market segment. It's definitely a model to keep a close eye on for future models. Cadillac with their years of experience, both concerning engineering and in what clients in this niche are after, have produced a remarkable product that is hard, if not impossible to beat for benefits per dollars spent.
