THE CADILLAC XT5 VS MERCEDES BENZ GLC

The Cadillac XT5 is a step up on the car-evolution ladder from its predecessor, the SRX. A solid car that impresses on many aspects and comes up short in few, if any. Going up against it today, in our comparison, is the spectacular Mercedes-Benz GLC Class. German engineering with a distinctive look, it makes for a great alternative!

Let's kick things off with the most crucial aspect, and I'm not talking horsepower, I'm talking price! I'm happy to say that price will not be a factor in this head to head battle since they are almost identical, with a difference of a little over 1000$ between them. Depending on your dealer, there's a good chance that you can match the lowest price since the disparity is so small. Price aside, let's address the next significant factor when it comes to SUV's: safety.

The Cadillac XT5 shines, with a massive list of safety features included in the standard basic model, which makes it no wonder why it earned a TSP+ safety rating. You can expect things like side impact, side curtains and frontal airbags, RearPark assist, a rearview camera, Traction Control, Tire Pressure Monitoring and even a 5 year Basic Plan with OnStar with 4G LTE Wifi, among many more safety features. The Mercedes-Benz doesn't even come close with their standard model, but they do offer similar safety features with added costs, making the comparison impossible. If you upgrade the XT5, you'll get into advanced Safety Systems like the Forward Collision Alert or Lane keep Assist to name but a few, leaving the Mercedes trailing behind yet again. Long story short, at comparable prices the XT5 offer incomparable better Safety Features than the GLC Class from Mercedes.

When it comes to consumption, the GLC Class outperforms the XT5 by offering 22 mpg inside the city, compared to only 19 from the Cadillac and 28 mpg on the Highway, compared to 27 delivered by the XT5. Not a huge difference, but still, the Mercedes takes this round.

When comparing interiors, it's hard to beat a Mercedes, but… the Cadillac does it, hands down! I think this is where the battle is won, with the XT5 absolutely smashing it in terms of quality, with fine details everywhere you look inside. The people designing it had a specific target in mind and they delivered on that target's requirements and then some! It is a car where excellence is focused on comfort, not thrills, but since there are very few parents that feel the need for a drag race… this is a plus, not a minus. The cabin is sophisticated, equipped with standard features like Apple CarPlay and wireless charging for smartphones. You can even set up a Wifi hotspot so family trips can be Internet-connected.

If you're a mom, or a dad, and you're looking to keep your family as safe as possible in an environment that is luxurious beyond the price range, then the Cadillac XT5 is a perfect choice. The GLC Class isn't a bad choice either, but considering you'll pay almost identical prices, why would one choose to skim on safety and comfort for a few more miles per gallon?
