The Cadillac CT6 VS Lincoln Continental
In a world dominated more and more by crossover SUVs, there are still some spectacular sedans available.
Today we look at the top end of the sedan market, the luxury sedans from Cadillac, the CT6, and from Lincoln, the famous Continental.
When you go after a legend like the Lincoln Continental, you best bring you're A-game. Not only did the CT6 prove to be a worthy match, but it also left its opponent trailing so far behind it got embarrassing. Let's look at each car individually to see why Cadillac's victory is undeniable.
Now in its last year of production, the CT6 is an incredibly well-built machine. Cars with a long history behind them have had all their problems sorted so buying a car at the end of its production circle is always a great idea. Poised to become one of America's classic sedans, the latest rendition of the CT6 is where tremendous power meets elegance.
Why is the CT6 in its last year then, if it's such a great car? Because it's very character is completely against what Chevrolet stands for which is pure opulence, and because the crossover sector has long eaten away at the sedan market as a whole.
Far removed from Cadillac's in-your-face luxury display, the nuanced exterior lines of the CT6 are suave and offer a different path towards high social status - subtlety. Just by looking at the long, elegant hood, you're drawn in by the car's appeal but you can tell it's very different from all other things Cadillac.
The subdued nature of its luxury manifests on the inside into one of the most elegant cockpits on the market. Superb materials and craftsmanship, enough room for even professional basketball players to ride comfortably, and a tech-rich list of standard features come together to create that wow-factor all luxury sedans aim for.
Under the hood, a standard 3.6-liter V-6 powers the car. It delivers 335 horsepower and coupled with the 10-speed automatic rides like a dream. But the real treat comes from the available V-8. Not many sedans can boast a powertrain capable of belting out a whopping 550 horsepower, but the CT6 can. Named the BlackWing by the company, the engine is phenomenally powerful, especially since it comes with a highly-responsive 10-speed automatic and all-wheel drive.
As far as standard features go, the CT6 is a delight on every level. Safety standard tech? Try the Automatic Emergency Braking System, the Blind-spot Monitors, the Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning and the Rear Cross-Traffic Alert. Standard infotainment tech? The Luxury trim, CT6's base level, comes with 2 USB ports, wireless phone charging capability, a huge 10.2-inch touch with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The base trim also includes perks like all-wheel drive, 19-inch wheels, LED headlights, power-adjustable heated front seats, leather upholstery, keyless ignition, parking sensors, dual-zone climate control, and a panoramic sunroof.
Its top trim, the Platinum is as close to perfect as they get. Order it and you'll get the exceptional V-8 engine, dual 10.0-inch touchscreens in the rear seats, a whopping state-of-the-art 34 speaker Bose audio system, rear-wheel steering, a heads-up display, heated pretty much everything, and four-zone climate control. These to name but a few.
The Continental brings some retro-chic aesthetics that might delight the nostalgic among us but other than that it can't compare with the CT6.
Its top engine? A meager 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 that would be impressive on its own, but not compared with the CT6's V-8. There a difference of no less than 150 horsepower between the two as the Lincoln manages just 400 to Cadillac's amazing 550 horsepower.
If safety and interior comfort are somewhat comparable between the two, the Continental again falls short in terms of standard features, as well as on any comparable trim levels.
The Continental is by no means a bad car. It's just no match for the exceptionally living legend, Cadillac's CT6.
